Uttar Pradesh Approves 47.6 km Rail Link Empowering Noida Airport Growth (Jewar Airport Noida)

Noida Airport Growth (Jewar Airport Noida)

The Uttar Pradesh government, in collaboration with the Ministry of Indian Railways, has given the green light for a groundbreaking 47.6km rail link connecting the upcoming Noida airport in Jewar to the Delhi-Mumbai Railway line in Palwal, Haryana, and the Delhi-Kolkata railway line in Chola village, Bulandshahr. This strategic move aims to fortify connectivity and spur development in the region along the Yamuna Expressway.

During a recent meeting, Uttar Pradesh Chief Secretary DS Mishra endorsed the project and directed the Northern Railway to formulate a detailed project report within the next six months. The objective is to commence work promptly and establish a railway link that seamlessly integrates with both Eastern and Western Railway corridors, directly serving the Noida international airport.

Arun Vir Singh, CEO of Yamuna Expressway Industrial Development Authority (Yeida), emphasized that the rail link’s placement within the airport complex will provide passengers arriving at or departing from Noida airport with convenient access to both Eastern and Western railway lines.

In July 2023, Mishra had formally requested the railways ministry to create a 47.6km rail link, ensuring connectivity between Noida airport in Jewar and key railway lines in Palwal, Haryana, and Chola village, Bulandshahr. The Uttar Pradesh government has committed to the Swiss company responsible for constructing the Jewar airport that the rail link will be operational by the end of 2024, offering multimodal connectivity to cities in the National Capital Region.

Apart from benefiting airport passengers, the rail link aims to stimulate cargo business in the area, thereby fostering employment opportunities. Yeida officials highlighted the region’s potential to become a thriving hub for logistics, warehousing, and various industrial activities, given the concurrent development of projects such as an electronic city, logistics hub, medical device park, apparel park, handicrafts park, and film city by the Yamuna Expressway Industrial Development Authority.

In addition to the rail link, Yeida has strategic plans for two expressways connecting Noida airport in Jewar to Chola railway station in Bulandshahr. Singh emphasized that establishing the railway link will not only generate substantial business opportunities but also create thousands of jobs in the region. Passengers using Jewar airport are set to benefit from a comprehensive multimodal transportation network encompassing road, rail, metro, and pod taxi systems, currently under development.
