Significant Increase in Land Acquisition Rate
The government of Uttar Pradesh has announced a substantial increase in the land acquisition rate for the Jewar International Airport in Greater Noida. Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath stated that the rate has been increased by nearly 39%, from ₹3,100 per square meter to ₹4,300 per square meter. This decision is seen as a major step to benefit farmers.
Compensation and Support for Farmers
The Yamuna Expressway Industrial Development Authority (YEIDA), which oversees the project, will handle interest payments associated with land acquisition. In addition to paying landowners and farmers, the government has promised to assist them with resettlement, self-employment opportunities, and job creation.
Jewar International Airport: A Key Development Project
The Jewar International Airport, being developed by Zurich Airport International (Zurich AG), has already acquired about 1,334 hectares (roughly 3,300 acres) of land. This project is expected to transform Uttar Pradesh’s infrastructure and industrial sectors by attracting significant investments and fostering growth in industries such as data centers and other modern sectors.
Relief Measures for Affected Farmers
During a meeting with farmers whose land will be acquired for the final phase of the airport, CM Adityanath directed YEIDA officials to take swift action in providing relief to those impacted. He emphasized that the Jewar International Airport would greatly benefit the region and improve the lives of its residents.
A Vision for Jewar’s Development
The Chief Minister highlighted that the Jewar area is poised to become one of India’s most developed and prosperous regions within the next decade. He also announced that Prime Minister Narendra Modi would inaugurate the Jewar International Airport, which is set to be one of Asia’s largest, next year.
Progress and Future Plans for the Airport
On December 9, a test flight was conducted at the Jewar International Airport, marking significant progress. The first phase of the airport will feature a single runway capable of handling 12 million passengers annually. By 2030, with the addition of a second runway, this capacity will increase to 30 million passengers per year.
Expansion Plans for Increased Capacity
The second phase of development will include a third runway over 1,365 hectares of land. Subsequent expansions will add a fourth runway on 1,318 hectares and a fifth runway on 735 hectares, ensuring that the Jewar International Airport becomes a leading aviation hub in the region.
